Patrons are raving about the Chinese and Japanese cuisine at the new restaurant.

Vienna has welcomed a new Asian eatery that specializes in handmade dumplings along with a variety of traditional Chinese and Japanese dishes.

Panda Dumpling, at 155B Maple Ave. W., recently launched a soft opening. Its official grand opening is January 18.

Bing Sui and her husband, Lei Yan, are the proud owners of this new restaurant, inspired by their two sons who have a deep appreciation for Sui’s culinary skills. Yan brings more than twenty years of experience in the kitchen, having most recently served at China Express Tysons in Vienna, and will be at the helm of the kitchen at Panda Dumpling. Meanwhile, Sui will oversee the dining area and personally assist in crafting the dumplings. A former instructor of Chinese dance and Peking opera in the DMV area, Sui shares, through an interpreter, that the initial responses from customers have been overwhelmingly positive.

“It was amazing,” shares Ryan Glass, a resident of Vienna, after trying the soup dumplings, sesame balls, takoyaki, and seaweed salad. “We will absolutely return.”

Guests can savor genuine steamed or fried dumplings filled with an assortment of ingredients, in addition to Japanese gyoza and soup dumplings. There are also rice and noodle options such as unaju and gyudon beef, alongside crispy treats like takoyaki and scallion pancakes.

The menu features a variety of dishes such as scallion pancakes, crab rangoon, beef noodle soup, sesame balls, and shrimp tempura. Additionally, patrons on the Vienna Foodies Facebook page have praised the pan-fried beef bao.

Vienna local Chris Roosenraad shares, “The servings are very generous; I really enjoy the classics—their take on soup dumplings and pork dumplings was outstanding.” He adds, “The food scene in Vienna has truly blossomed since the pandemic, and I have high hopes for Panda Dumpling's success.”

Don't forget to bring your thirst! Panda Dumpling offers refreshing boba tea and delicious Yakult beverages.

Sui shares that it has taken her family over two years to gather the courage to turn their dream of opening a Chinese restaurant into a reality. The restaurant operates from Friday to Wednesday, welcoming guests from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
